Ash Cloud Director of Photography services
Tomorrow’s Creative provided Director of Photography services for Ash Cloud: The Week the World Stopped, a feature-length factual documentary produced by ITN Productions for Channel 5.
The 68-minute programme revisits the 2010 eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull volcano and the aviation crisis that followed. Flights across Europe were grounded, millions of passengers were stranded and the event became an unprecedented challenge for the travel industry.
James Melrose worked as one of the programme’s Directors of Photography. His contribution followed the documentary’s established visual style, using considered compositions and controlled, natural-looking lighting to create polished factual television images.
Working with the wider ITN Productions team required a flexible approach across contributors, locations and filming situations. Each sequence supplied the edit with strong visual material while keeping the photography focused on the programme’s factual narrative.
